The most important thing your child will learn to do this year is read! Reading is like playing a sport- you have to practice. If a person wants to be a good basketball player, he or she needs to practice, practice, practice. The same goes for good readers- you have to put in the extra time and effort if you want to be good at it. Reading needs to become a part of your child's daily routine. Your child's educational success depends upon the habits you start in early elementary school.
Below are some resources we use in class. Click on the picture to open a new window. Wonders is the reading curriculum we use in class. The weekly: focus, spelling, phonics, grammar, and comprehension skills, adjust on the website from week to week. Freckle is a supplemental website we use in class for reading, as well as math. This website has various reading skills that adapt to the students' current needs. Scholastic Book Club has many books that families can order. Take a look with your child, and let them choose some books they are interested in. This is a great way to get kids hooked on reading!
