Math is another foundational skill students learn in 1st grade. Your child learns how to represent numbers in multiple ways- pictures, equations, and words. They practice basic addition and subtraction but learn that there are many ways to go about solving equations. They even get into word problems and having to write their own equations from the story. Among many other skills! Math facts are a huge part of your child's success in math. Like reading, math facts are something that need to be practiced, practiced, practiced!
Below are some resources we use in class. Click the image to open the website. Our math curriculum is called Envision Math by Pearson. The website has weekly games and assignments that are related to the content being taught that week. One of our favorite websites to use for math is Freckle. This is the same website we use for Reading too. Like Reading, the website adjusts to your child's needs. They are able to practice math facts, number sense, and various math lessons.
